Amplification for Your Ceremony

Some like live music and will have vocals at their ceremony sung by a live singer. We agree it can be a great way to help ensure your wedding is unique. But for those that are having live music you might not think about amplification for those musicians. We now carry BOSE live PA sound equipment for the best possible sound for the most important day of your life. Simple, elegant and won't stand out like a sore thumb. BEFORE & AFTER LIGHTING - SPOT LIGHT FOR CAKE

Did a great wedding this weekend for Lesli and Shawee Li! Both from California and both planned the entire wedding out of state. We worked with Josh mershon on the event to ensure all was well. The couple went with our intelligent lightshow and uplighting as well as some cake spots to high light the great cake ludgers put together, other than the wedding next door trying to invade our party the entire night was a blast! dancing until 10:00 kickout time and left the guests wanting more!

June 7th - 13th

We are going to be out of the office in Florida for the week of June 7th - 12th. Please leave a message or email us.

Want to plan a hillbilly hoedown? Here is a great link!

The blog, titled ‘The Big Wedding Money-Wasters’ was posted to Yahoo blogs in the Food section, and seemingly featured as well. The authors were two women - Rita Mauceri and Elicia Rubin - who call themselves ‘Entertaining and Style Experts’ but judging from their blog, nothing could be further from the truth. Apparently they also author books, which after reading this blog I would suggest brides steer clear of wasting their money on because if their books are anything like their blog, they are likely filled with equally worthless advice.

http://food.yahoo.com/blog/foxyfestivities/19773/the-big-wedding-money-wasters/#post

My friend Craig over at cutting edge DJ's had a great observation from the above link...

The Dress
By suggesting spending $300.00 on your wedding dress they are in fact suggesting that your wedding dress be reduced to what many girls spend on prom dresses. I don’t even think a bride would consider this ‘advice’ in the first place, so no need to waste time on the foolish suggestion. Brides, this is your magical day that you have dreamed of all your life…Nuff said.

Band (and DJ)
The prices they list for a band of DJ are quite unrealistic on the low end (that is being kind) and they go on to suggest either having a friend DJ for you or using and IPod in combination with renting a sound system.
Please don’t believe for a second that a random friend or an automated IPod could replace a band or DJ with experience at reading a crowd, the IPod being the worse of both options. So when people aren’t dancing because the auto-play IPod isn’t playing the correct sequence of songs are your guests expected to shuffle through songs making wild guesses? Just go to YouTube and search ‘Ipod DJ’ to see a plethora of horror stories regarding this option.

Cake
As they say, cupcakes can be nice… but remember, the ‘Etsy’ featured cupcakes were likely made by a bakery and the photo taken by a professional photographer hence making them look so good. Do yourself a favor, don’t bake Betty Crocker cupcakes in your kitchen and bring them to your wedding. By cutting the cost of a wedding cake or bakery presentation you aren’t cutting enough money to compromise the look of your wedding cake and reduce it to the look of something you bought at a bake sale.

Photographers
I was married once, and my former mother-in-law did just what this blog suggests… went with the lowest low-budget photographer available. What we got was low-budget photographs. Bad lighting, bad angles, bad pictures. If the photographic memories of your wedding day are of little to no importance to you, just ask an art school student or better yet a guest with a camera to take those important photos and hope you get something worth framing. A camera in the hands of someone with little to no experience is no different than you or I trying to paint a masterpiece on canvas with oil paints… trust me, you wouldn’t want to hang it on the wall.

Flowers & Food
I don’t suggest picking your own flowers or skimping on the food. I know I’ve used this term already, but once again it just sounds ‘ghetto’ to me. A cocktail type party or a reception with stations can be nice, but to say that a professional caterer makes ‘rubbery chicken’ is just propaganda to scare you away from doing things the right way. As for making your own flower arrangements, good luck with that… florists are called florists for a reason.

In a nutshell, these two women tout themselves as ‘professionals’ yet their advice would suggest that using professionals on your wedding day isn’t the best course of action. Look up the word ‘hypocrite’ and you may just find a link to their blog. Remember that before you consider buying their ‘professional’ book or seeking their ‘professional’ advice.

Or perhaps they are trying to start a new trend called ‘Ghetto Chic.’

Let’s face it… I’m not sure if it’s a certain social responsibility or just an unspoken expectation, but if you are going to have a reception at all and your plan is to serve store-bought cupcakes and play your favorite tunes on your IPod to entertain your invited guests, does that somehow absolve your invited guests from giving you gifts, or for that matter skimping by giving you the bare minimum from your bridal registry? One spoon or one plate perhaps? If you’re going to throw a reception, do it the right way… otherwise you might as well just elope.

I’m surprised they didn’t suggest a CZ over a diamond for the engagement ring. Maybe that’s in in the book, or they’re saving it for a future blog.

Dresser Mansion Open House

We had the privilege of attending the Dresser Mansion open house last week and it was a great event. We brought out the new setup that really fit nice inside the mansion. Small compact and very elegant(per Gina). There is not alot of room at the mansion for a large sound system, belive me you will really regret it if your DJ shows up with a concert sound system at your reception and you have to figure out how to fit it inside the mansion!

If your getting married at the Dresser Mansion be sure to check with us about your wedding ceremony as well (okay commercial over!) Time for the pics! Also links to come!

Catering company was Chefs on the Run and I have to say that I heard SO many comments about how great the food was and I myself sampled some and have to agree, it was about the best catering that I have tasted from a "on the run" catering company.

Cake was done by Ludgers, while the cake was still frozen when sampled its hard to beat the Bavarian cream(although I am a bigger fan of the chocolate version).

Photographer was Andrea Murphy and she had some really cool photos on display!

There was also a real treat upstairs in the bridal sweet..a Spa! What a perfect idea! Have them come up for some chair massages, hand rubs and more the day off..your family, brides maids will love them. They also have a great palce over at 81st and Memorial..

Blue Label bartenders were on site and Garrett was great! He is great and you can't go wrong when you bring them into the picture! (plus its required at the dresser to have a licensed bartender on site)

It has been a very busy past few weeks around here..look for new posts today! Enjoy!

Recent email from a bride!

Zach with Tulsa wedding DJ was AMAZING! He FAR exceeded our expectations! Anything and everything I asked for was done with no questions. Zach provided uplighting for the reception venue, which completely set the mood. The lighting totally transformed the room and was beautiful! His DJ'ing was top notch. Everyone has complemented on our DJ. He did not just stand behind his machines and play music, he walked around the room with a portable mic and was VERY interactive with the guests. He kept everyone engaged, and no guest was ever bored. Truly. He kept things moving and flowing seamlessly all night. I truly feel that Zach MADE our reception! Thanks to him it was fabulous and everything we could've ever dreamed of and more. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts!

Can you really trust The Knot?

This week I was at Barnes & Noble and I picked up The Knot’s 2009 ‘Best Of Weddings’ {the winners} issue. Now I know that many brides and grooms view The Knot - both the magazine and the website - as a reputable resource, one which they can turn to for recommendations for wedding vendors. In many cases - if not most - the pages are filled with respected professionals, some of which I know personally and would enthusiastically endorse like Mark Kingsdorf from Queen Of Hearts Wedding Consultants - www.qohweddings.com - for example, who truly is one of the best in his field.

But it looks like one slipped through ‘The Knot.’

On page 171 of ‘The Knot Best Of Weddings 2009′ issue, there is a DJ company listed as an editors choice, meaning, The Knot ‘hand picked’ them and chose to list them as one of their ‘winners.’ It seems to me that The Knot didn’t do very much research at all.

The name of the company is ‘A Solid Gold Sound.’ A simple Google search turned up several complaints on my3cents.com, and well over fifty complaint submissions on Ripoff Report and that was only on the first page. Dig a bit deeper and I found several news stories, one from WCPO, the ABC television affiliate in Cincinnati, Ohio and one from Inside Edition. Even the Better Business Bureau has multiple listings for this company, and gave them an ‘F’ rating claiming that they never responded to refute any of the claims.

Here are the links

my3cents.com - http://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=27820

Ripoff Report - http://www.ripoffreport.com/searchresults.asp?q5=A+Solid+Gold+Sound&searchtype=0&q1=ALL&q3=&q2=&q7=&q4=&q6=&start=0

ABC Television - http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story/April-30-2007-I-Team-Report-Solid-Gold-Wedding/SEI9Fa-lFEGYXS5HnKyVwg.cspx

Inside Edition - http://www.insideedition.com/news.aspx?storyID=1336

Better Business Bureau - http://www.bbb.org/us/Find-Business-Reviews/#middle-result (Just type in ‘A Solid Gold Sound’)

Seeing that these complaints were coming from cities all over the United States, I decided to do a little further investigation of my own. I contacted a DJ colleague Rob Green of ‘Entertainment Express’ - www.houstondiscjockey.net - in Houston, Texas regarding an address that A Solid Gold Sound had listed as their Houston office. Rob physically drove to the listed address and had this to say…

They have a fake address for the Google “local business results” section here in Houston. The address they are using here is 9521 Westheimer. My work is close by, so I drove three blocks over one day to see what was there. It’s a mostly vacant strip mall that (surprise, surprise) doesn’t have A Solid Gold Sound office.

Ironically, this blog has very little to do with ‘A Solid Gold Sound.’

Do I think that The Knot could have been more responsible in giving a strong endorsement to a company like this? Yes. I can’t imagine how many brides-to-be look to The Knot for ideas and for vendors. This isn’t merely a case of a paid advertisement that turned out to be a scam, this was what The Knot saying is ‘the best’ of 2009. Remember… The Knot isn’t in the bride’s best interest business, they aren’t even in the wedding business. The Knot is in the publishing, selling magazines and selling advertising business.

It took me all of fifteen minutes to Google and come up with this information. I guess The Knot was too busy.

Brides, do your homework. Use Google, ask the other vendors you are working with, ask your friends but whatever you do don’t look to a magazine like The Knot as if it were scripture. Ask whatever vendor you are working with for references or ask the hall, country club or hotel where you are having your reception for their recommendation. For example, my friend Keith KoKoruz from Spinnin’ Discs in Chicago, Illinois - www.spinnindiscs.com - provides potential brides with up to four pages of past brides wedding dates, names and phone numbers (given with their permission of course) for them to contact before choosing his services. This is a man clearly proud of his work, but I guess that The Knot felt A Solid Gold Sound was a better choice for their ‘best of’ list.

Whatever you do, don’t make the same mistake that so many brides who submitted complaints to these sources made by not using the internet until it was too late.

Wedding of Grace and Caleb..

What a great wedding...Camp Loughridge was the spot for the couples big evening. The family has a long history at the camp and we had the chance to make sure that their memories were etched with a great timeline, relaxed times and great dancing all evening long. I can't wait to see the photos that were taken, so check back to see them. Attached is a short video of the dancing!

We provide the lighting outside and inside the room, the dance lighting was added using our Qspot 250's and were controlled by computer. The music was a non-stop mix of the brides favorite 80's,90's and todays club hits mixed seemlessly by DJ Zach Downing. We had many many people come up to compliment us on how fun it was and how well everything came together.

What a Wedding

Just got back into the office after a great wedding Saturday night at the Dresser Mansion. This was the Third wedding of three that this couple had. The first was in Australia, the second was in England and this was the Third.

We always love being at the dresser, Charlie & Gina are great to work with and so helpful. The wedding was held outside in a heated 20x40 tent in the backyard, guests came inside for a hour and a half cocktail hour with two open full bars and passed appetizers. Dinner was served at 7:30 in the tent outside and guests were treated to Mershon's catering with Prime rib, sides, wrapped asparagus and wine. After dinner guests gathered inside the mansion main entry for the Toasts. Cake cutting was followed by hours of dancing and drinking ending at the strike of Midnight as the Bride and Groom rode off into the dark November night in Tulsa. A few photos are below for your enjoyment.

Civic Center Wedding - OKC - Hall Of Mirrors

Our sister company in Oklahoma City was out and about in OKC this weekend. The civic center wedding was a great wedding. Jeff and Moran were both super clients. We met with them last April to plan this wedding and everyone was great. Abbey Road catering was super easy to work with and from what we were told the food was great! The Civic center was very easy as well and the staff was great. Morgan designed the cakes herself and did a great job, not sure who did the cake but it looked very nice!

Here is the profile for the event:

280 guests -
20+ Tables
280+ Chair covers
5-6 candles on each table - lit
Centerpieces on each table
18 uplights were used around the room to highlight the colors
4 lights were used on the stage computer controlled to add some extra excitement.

Sound was provided to fill the room but we could have used a little more but wasn't in the budget for the client. The grand entrance was to How Sweet It Is To be Loved by You - Michael Buble , The first dance was fun and upbeat to michael buble - everything. The hosts gave a welcome(brides dad) , no formal toasts were given, cake cutting and dancing! The sorority sisters did the special circle dance followed by the house rap song. After that the dancing ensued with the bride being given the VIP treatment to dancing queen by all the girls at the party. Jeff stepped it up to dance to some Vanilla ice with his guys and the dance floor was non-stop until 11pm when they made their grand exit outside.

We worked with Linda and Ryan on their wedding for just under two weeks! They had booked a DJ company that canceled on them and left them high and dry. When they called our office we immediately went into action to help them plan this epic wedding. The German American center was decked out from front and back with a very nice layout (see photos below)....they also worked with some great vendors to make it an evening that will not be forgotten by most. Dancing into the night was the conclusion of this day and the bride and groom left in the Tulsa Trolly into maritial bliss.

Are all wedding DJ's created the same?? A open letter to wedding vendors in Tulsa

WHAT DO YOU REALLY WANT or WHAT ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO GET BY BOOKING THE CHEAPEST DJ YOU CAN FIND? Pictures are worth 1000+ words.

Good afternoon,

As wedding vendors, we strive to give our clients our all, we strive to give them the best for their special day. But some couples really do need a little hand holding to bring the entire picture to light. They have the best food, the best flowers, the best photography, the best video, the best chair covers...but skimp on the entertainment...it can really put a damper on all those "best" services even though you as vendors did you best.

If the customers guests leave after an hour, half the food is left and there are no photos to be taken of people dancing...what do you think her overall view of her wedding reception will be.....(insert answer here).....

While most clients put about 1% of their entire budget into entertainment. Some put much less thought that that.

Our clients that book with TulsaWeddingDJ.Com know that they are getting the best of the best in Tulsa and Oklahoma, we deliver a knockout punch at the reception and ensure that everyone goes away happy.

<--an actual picture of TulsaWeddingDJ.Com in action...

As a wedding DJ/Entertainer/Entertainment director our jobs are to ensure that all aspects of the evening are flawless, we do so much more than just play music...we entertain, relax and ensure the client is happy when the clock strikes midnight....as wedding vendors you should also ensure that your client knows what options are out there. We always advise clients to meet with at least 2-3 DJ companies when thinking about booking one. Let them see the styles and compare apples to apples...as weddings vendors it only makes us better and strive to make each wedding unique and special.

We would be happy to talk with your clients so they can avoid having a wedding DJ nightmare....

July 22nd - Super Nice Review From a Bride!

Jill & Ryan Clark -
Wedding: 04/26/2008

I cannot say enough nice things about working with Tulsa Wedding DJ.Com. Zach was both very professional and personable. He was flexible with meeting times, which was wonderful since my husband and I live in Austin and were coming home for random weekends to plan the wedding. He sat down with us and went over all the details we could think of. We never felt rushed for time. He was extremely organized, and knowledgeable about music, mood-setting, and what we could do to make our wedding fun and memorable.

The reception went by very smoothly. Zach guided the evening's events with charisma and enthusiasm. The guest had a great time- the dance floor was always in use- and he was able to keep the energy in the tent up- especially during the garter toss!

Zach also did our lighting for the tent. It cost approximately what it would have cost to rent street lamps and chandeliers, but instead of boring yellow light, this lighting was creative and really added a unique flair to our reception. To me, lighting really helps set a mood. We had the low-end of what he could provide (because of our budget restrictions), but ieven that really made a difference. If you are looking for creative lighting talk to Zach- I am willing to bet he could provide it or would figure out a way to make it possible.

The service before and during the wedding was wonderful, but it is really the service after the wedding the made me realize how committed to his clients Zach is. We have been having problems with one of our vendors, and Zach has been helpful in getting us information and numbers we can contact to help us out. This is above and beyond what was in our contract.

Please do not be skeptical if this all sounds too flowery. We really did have an exceptional experience with this vendor. I highly recommend at least looking in to TulsaWeddingDJ.Com and setting up a meeting. Then you could begin to understand why we were so impressed.

Weddings! July 19th 2008

Well it was a GREAT wedding weekend!

Congratulations are in order to our fab brides and grooms!

Congratulations to Janet and Shelby Beil for a great wedding at Ovations! In sapulpa!
What a great wedding and DJ JOE said that the guests had a great time and did not want to stop dancing!

Congratulations to Crystal and Aaron Dugger! This wedding was at the Bernson Community Center in downtown Tulsa. I stopped in before the event with DJ Paul and they had a great layout- See the picture below of our great DJ Paul! He kept the event rocking from what I heard from the photobooth guy! We brought in some extra sound, this is a BIG venue and needs more sound than the "average DJ" would bring in for you.

DJ PAUL -

Congratulations to Craig and Susan Niles! Nicole at five oaks said that DJ RANDY did a great job...the ceremony was beautiful and the reception rocked! We even had grandma on the dancfloor dancing the night away!!

Congratulations to Ian and Courtney Graham! - DJ ZACH (Me!) did a great job if I do say so myself! This was a large wedding with 350 Guests, seated dinner at the Philbrook museum of art. I worked in conjuntion with "The wavetones"band to act as the Emcee for the evening, I also provided ceremony microphones and music for 350 guests outside. A wireless speaker was used for coctail hour on the terrace and I also greeted guests as they arrived for salads and dinner. The bride and groom as well as the bridal party were greeted as they entered the room with a tune from the wavetones. After a great toast from the best man, maid of honor and of course the brides father..the cake was cut..and the dancing began. I played between breaks for the band and kept the night rolling until Ian and courtney were sent off in grand style out the front door to a shower of rose petals....Congratulations again to all our great brides!

Coming up next weekend..another busy July wedding weekend at TulsaWeddingDJ.Com

Dresser Mansion Lighting - Party - April 29th 2008

Another great evening at the dresser manion, Tuesday April 29th we helped man the Kappa Delta formal 08 a smashing success. We added some uplighting around the main room and sun room which really added some great effect. We had many comments on how great the room looked after the sun set. All the lighting was computer controlled and changed with the mood..very subtle yet very unique. Everyone had a great time and kept dancing until the end.

Wedding Chapel and Reception Sites in Tulsa – Who picks the Vendor?

September 27th 2006 (Tulsa)

A brides dream, her wedding. Her style, her choices and exactly what she wants. What if the bride was not given a choice as to certain vendors she was able to use at her reception? When you’re looking for wedding vendors in Tulsa and Oklahoma most people think about booking the photographer first, they find the dress, the wedding venue, entertainment, catering company, florist etc. What if you were not given the option of using your own vendors? Wedding vendor payola is nothing new and most people who can make some extra money will fall into this trap of cutting exclusive deals with wedding vendors.

Dominion House Guthrie

KELSEY & JUSTIN

AUGUST 12th 2006

We did a wedding last weekend at the Dominion House super nice bride and groom..family from all over including canada...VERY FUN TIME!! Here is a little story about the wedding!

Well I had never been to the dominion house pr guthrie for that matter, but thought it should be interesting. Got to Guthrie a few hours early so I stopped and had the best BBQ chopped beef sandwhich with Onion cuts(like rings but different) at a place near Homeland (not sure about the name).

I drove to find the dominion house and drove by it 3 times before I saw that I was driving by it! It was one of the most beautiful buildings in town and surrounded by a elegant iron gate, locked....hrmm well looks like I was still early so I drove around another hour and got back to pull up to the house. I unloaded walked in and this was the most well built, every detail looked at and words cannot explain ...well awe...maybe....

The staff was very helpful, friendly, the setup was done on time, the ceremony was outside (sound system included outside by the Dominion house) not sure about wireless mics but they did have sound. The reception started had everyone dancing until 11:00 when it was time to shut it down as we had to be out by 11:30. The party was great, food smelled excellent, and the staff was very open to suggestions, changes in plans. If you have not found your reception venue, you might want to look into moving your wedding to Guthrie! Think about it.....everyone is already driving to a church, reception site...etc.... Why not just have everyone go to Guthrie! Its a great little town with a GREAT place to hold the ceremony(indoors or out), reception and lots of places to stay in a small town yet big city ammenitys.

This venue in my opinion is one of the best built, best looking and ELEGANT places to have your wedding in Oklahoma (and I have been to ALOT of wedding be venues)

RECOMMENDED!

Getting The Most Out Of Your Advertising

When you are creating advertising design for the newspaper, magazine or direct mail, what do you think might be one of the most important considerations?

If you answered readability, congratulate yourself! Fancy graphics may get the ad noticed, but readers must be able physically to read the words. This elementary concept sounds simple enough, yet is often ignored. If they can't read it, they can't understand enough about your offer to respond.

With today’s' sophisticated and virtually unlimited graphic computer options, it is easy for the graphic design advertising person to get sidetracked into believing what is on the screen looks like a true work of art!

Here are some advertising design questions to ask:
1. Want your ad to look different?Examine a few past issues of the publication where your ad will be appearing. Often publications create ads themselves ("pub-set") and they can tend to look similar. See if you can spot them. Then try to develop a graphic look different than the other ads. Set your ad apart by using a different type face family that is easily read.

2. Is the advertisement legible? In their desire to be different and stylish, some of today’s' magazines make reading difficult.
Here are some common problems. White type on a light pastel background. Or light pastel type on a slightly darker background of the same color. Or colors that don't contrast well when viewed in black and white, such as dark forest green type printed on a background of fire engine red.
It is better to go for the headline in big, lighter type against a much darker background.

3. Trying to cram too much information into a small space? One of the big problems is trying to fit too many words and concepts into a small space.
Here is where small space is actually your friend. It forces you (or the writer) to break down your ideas into simple words and simple concepts. Bear in mind that the goal of many advertisements is to solicit an inquiry, not to tell the entire story.
Often readers look to the details to figure out if they want to act. The type showing those details should be large enough to see and comprehend, even for those who have trouble with their vision. Type in color really needs to be 10 point, if not 11 to be read by the entire population.
With black and white newspaper ads, it is possible to use typefaces as small as 8 point because their comprehension is made easier by black type on newsprint. In magazines, black type as small as 4 points (on a white background) has been used. The clarity is astounding, but many people need a magnifying glass!

In conclusion, ignoring these three considerations can spell disaster for the reader who is trying to understand the advertising message. Good advertising design creates graphic effects that enhance the writers' words and contribute to the overall success of the ad.

Real Tulsa Wedding - June 11th 2006 Becky and Stephen

Real Tulsa Weddings: From www.TulsaWeddingZone.Com
Zach Downing- Managing Editor- TulsaWeddingZone.Com

Steven & Becky June 11, 2006 Dresser Mansion Tulsa, OK

We did a wedding a few weeks ago at the Dresser Mansion. We booked it, met with the bride who told her her photographer has a misfortune of "not being availalbe" last minute and needed somone to take her wedding pics. We suggested Jessie Reich Weddings and she booked them. Jessie always does such a great job we know the bride would be happy with him. He not only took photos of the bride before the ceremony, at the ceremony he stayed ALL night! Most "turn key" photographers only stay a few hours, take a few pics and leave..he is really dedicated to his work and making sure each bride gets the best job...well he did and here is an email we just got from the bride... The dresser did a great job of getting everything ready.

The ceremony, the reception and the catering team was good as well. Overall a success on a warm Sunday afternoon. A great day to have your wedding is a Sunday, everyone is feeling at ease from the weekend, not feeling rushed and can have a great time.

Comments from Bride:

"Hey Zach, if you get any extra time you should go check out our wedding pics..Jessie did such an awesome job!! I cant believe how good they are. (old photographer) couldnt have done something that awesome!! so yah thank you so much for everything you did and helping us find the best photographer ever!! Dont worry I will tell everyone about you and get ready cause you will hopefully be doing my sisters wedding soon..lol no but seriously we talked the other night and she said if she ever gets married (which she will) she wanted to use you and Jesse.. thank you Becky and Steven"

Story About Marriage

This was sent to me..so thought I would pass it on..the secret to a great marriage!

Every marriage has its ups and downs. There are the days when you look at your spouse and hear choirs humming Alleluias and there are the days when you wonder, "Who are you and what is your stuff doing in my house?" Those are the days when you play golf. Fishing works, too, or writing sonnets or digging post holes. It keeps the two of you apart for a few hours and usually that's all you need.

I have an after-dinner speech about marriage that is 15 minutes long and somewhat funny. ("The rules for marriage are the same as for a lifeboat. No sudden moves, don't crowd the other person, and keep all disastrous thoughts to yourself.") , So I found myself in a cab to LaGuardia to catch a plane to Atlanta to give the speech. (I was in New York to speak at the Edith Wharton Society but not about marriage since she had a miserable one.) The cab stops at the tollbooth on the Triborough Bridge, and I hand the cabbie a $5 bill for the toll, and he waves it away and gives the man in the booth a $50 bill, which turns out to be counterfeit. "Not just counterfeit," the toll-taker says. "It's lousy counterfeit." The $50 bill is confiscated, forms are filled out, I pay the toll and we get to LaGuardia thirty minutes before flight time.

I give the driver $25 for a $23.75 fare and he yells, "Why take it out on me?" Because you knew the bill was counterfeit, that's why. I'm no rube. I didn't just fall off the cabbage wagon. I dash to the plane. I am flying to Atlanta to speak at a benefit luncheon, and I dislike benefits because you have to endure other people's gratitude, which can be exhausting.

This sounds ungracious but it's true. You go speak for free to a banquet of the Episcopal Promise Keepers of Poughkeepsie or the Honorary Society of Menomonie Economists or the Scandinavian Skin-Diving School in Schenectady and thirty people tell you what a wonderful thing you're doing and it wears you out. If one person would tell you a joke instead, you would throw your arms around him in gratitude. I get on the plane and I'm in seat 8D on one of those toy jets that airlines have introduced, which are designed for groups of fourth-graders. The seats are hard on the vertically gifted such as myself, so that when the man in 7D reclines his seat, it almost kills me. If Abraham Lincoln were sitting in 8D, he would give up on that "malice toward none" concept and club 7D on the top of his little bald head. But I bite my tongue, and I also do not shoot my neighbor in 8C, a piggish fellow in an expensive sweater and tasseled shoes, snarfling his lunch while poring over the Wall Street Journal and poking me with his elbow as he eats.

I come from a part of America where people apologize if they poke and make sure not to do it again. He comes from a part of America where you push your way up to the trough and elbow other people out of the way. The benefit luncheon in Atlanta is not a happy time. It is an organization of Very Rich People Helping Wretched People Without Having To Be In The Same Room With Them, and it's full of alpha males of the sort you see strutting around airports with cell phones clipped to their ears hollering at somebody in Cincinnati I give my 15-minute speech, which suddenly isn't amusing at all, and the president of Very Rich People gives me a hideous Lucite plaque in gratitude for my generosity, which I deposit in a trash bin at the airport, and I fly home and there is my elegant wife waiting at the curb in her car. It is so good to see her. We've been married ten years and surely we have problems, but at the moment I cannot think of a single one... there is no place I would rather be. Misery is the secret of happiness in marriage.

Go make yourself miserable and then come home.

Tulsa Military Wedding

http://www.mrandmrsmeadows.com

We got a call a week ago about a wedding being planned. This was to be held initially in Canada I belive located in what I have never heard of Baniff Springs http://www.fairmont.com/banffsprings/
From what I see this is really a nice place! So if you are thinking about having your wedding out of Tulsa or in another country! There ya go!
Also this wedding was moved to Tulsa last minute and they lost alot of their deposits, retainers as the military called...so the bride is now in the Air Force! In the brides own words:
"Never let it be said that life in the military isn't exciting. As the commercials say, it's not just a job... it's an Adventure. Sometimes that adventure includes flying in dark skies over hostile borders and sometimes it means planning your wedding for a second time in the same year. Due to some complications at Alan's work, we've moved some things around a bit, namely the date and the country."

"Bail Out"

As many of your know I am a wedding DJ. www.TulsaWeddingDJ.Com just got a call today from a bride who's "DJ" bailed on them, guests were arriving at the venue for the ceremony and "NO DJ!" I got the call from the brides mother FRANTIC...loaded up, got the tux ready and headed out..was setup before the cake was cut...basic setup...no lighting as I didn't have time..but Emcee'd the cake cutting, toasts were done...first dance perfect......

As some of you wedding vendors know...have your event in writing not just for your protection..but also advise each of your clients no matter who they are working with or thinking about working with to get it in writing..I do to anyone who steps into my office.
....the bride had no contract just paid her retainer to the guy who turned out was charging her a whopping 200 dollars to do this...she paid him 100 when she booked him and had a 100.00 bill ready..I gave her a break on my full price rate..charged her a day rate for a Sunday as I felt really bad (yes I have a big heart) she paid me my full price at the end..plus the 100.00 tip said that it was better than she ever imagined and her daughter and new husband had the best day of their lives....

Have a great weekend everyone!

Ebay Bride Gets Ripped Off

Psssst ... wanna buy a wedding dress?
Blakely Smith dreamed of getting married in a Monique Lhuillier wedding gown - the kind she'd always loved when she saw them on pop stars like Pink in People magazine.
Now she's out $2,400 to an eBay scammer, and thinking maybe she should get married in a courthouse.
She called to tell her tale of wedding-dress-lust, clouded judgment, and wedding-dream-lost. Yes, it's a bit embarrassing. But she hopes to help others avoid the pain she feels.
EBay says Smith made at least two textbook mistakes en route to being scammed. What may make her case most remarkable, though, is how it ended - in a bizarre e-mail exchange with her anonymous scammer.
It came after Smith had paid her money and received nothing back. She e-mailed "Kate," the supposed seller, told of a coworker's eBay horror story, and outlined why she was growing suspicious. "I am sorry to be this way, but in today's world, it is not totally off base to be wary," she said.
To which "Kate" replied:
"That's true, indeed. I just scammed you, sorry for that, it's nothing personal. ... It's what I do, and it pays well."
How did Smith get into this mess? The way any confidence-game victim does - by letting an overabundance of trust overwhelm ordinary caution.
Smith, 29, works in advertising at Philadelphia Style magazine. Her fiance, Michael Minton, teaches high school science. She turned to eBay because, dreams or not, a new Monique Lhuillier gown was out of reach.
She was the top bidder for the gown, which sold new for $5,500 and features Alencon lace, "decadent silk chartreuse lining" and an "exquisite golden silk sash." But she fell short of the reserve, the seller's hidden minimum price.
She couldn't tell how short. Neither, presumably, could the scammer. But the fake "Kate" knew when to pounce.
Soon after the auction closed, Smith got a message via her eBay account. The seller had decided to accept her final bid, it said, and directed her to reply to an outside e-mail address.
Looking back, Smith realizes that was a red flag - one that was even warned against in a "Marketplace Safety Tip" on the same screen: "If you receive a response inviting you to transact outside of eBay, you should decline - such transactions may be unsafe and are against eBay policy."
Another red flag was the wire-transfer "Kate" requested, saying her account on PayPal, eBay's own payment system, had been frozen because of - what else? - a scammer's intrusion.
But Smith, new to eBay, didn't notice either warning until the deed was done. Last Monday, after a brief e-mail exchange with "Kate," she sent her money - more than $2,400, including fees - to a Western Union office in Mount Clemens, Mich.
Police there are investigating, and may catch the scammer or a confederate. But there are broader lessons in Smith's story for anyone new to eBay.
One is that eBay says it can only warn against scams, not prevent them. "Ultimately, this is between the buyer and seller. This is just a venue," spokesman Hani Durzy told me.
Don't expect much sympathy, either. Durzy even suggested that Smith "let her greed get the best of her" in falling for the scam. "What she did is the online equivalent of walking out of a store and buying something in a back alley," he says.
For that matter, eBay doesn't even count such "back alley" crimes as frauds when it boasts that only a small fraction of total listings - just one-hundredth of 1 percent - "lead to a confirmed case of fraud."
Sure, it's small fraction. But eBay reported 1.9 billion listings in 2005, so it translates into 190,000 confirmed frauds in one year. (To report an online scam, go to www.ic3.gov/complaint.)
Smith is understandably angered by the suggestion she fell victim to her own greed. She turned to eBay for a used wedding dress, and lost eight months of savings. The truth is, eBay can be a risky place for newbies.
Don't take my word. Consider how "Kate" put it when I e-mailed her at the address the scammer gave Smith: "It's like the food chain, you know - I was the predator, she was the prey."
A chilling reminder of an online truism: On the Internet, anybody might be a shark.

February End Of Month

February is about over, and another two bridal shows that I know about have come and gone. One was at the aquarium which as I was told by a few vendors was a flop - 30 brides total in two days with 17 hour days on average work. That would calulate to be $41.00 an hour if booths were 700.00 which I am sure they were much higher. So average what is that...1230.00 per bride that was spent? WOW...

Also two brides that I talked to today said that they did not attend any bridal shows but have booked everything online. As far as my company goes we might do one bridal show a year which would be The Tulsa Wedding Show. All other shows are out of the question.

If your a wedding vendor and are not online you are missing out and are spending what, 1200 per lead at a wedding show? Waste of money? You tell me....

Large elegant wedding and some pictures

Just wanted to post some pictures of a wedding we did a few weeks ago.

Take 5 video did the video - www.take5video.com
www.TulsaWeddingDJ.Com was the DJ for the night
Catering was done by Ginger Mosher of Pryor Oklahoma (sorry no company name available)
Photographer was done by- (coming soon)

The night began with a romantic ceremony in front of the estate - following the ceremony was a lovely reception that was held in a tent as well as around the indoor pool. The pool had a clear dancefloor installed over it, each table had TY Nant water and a personal wedding cake. The food was a mix of meat and veggies. There were three chocolate fountains, and a game room with pizza, candy..candy..and more candy for the kids. The guests had a great time dancing and we actually went an hour longer then planned. This is the second wedding we have done for the family, the first was the brides sister two years ago. We are also providing holiday entertainment for their company party in December.

Below are a few pictures of the event.
